Avengers World #1 Review

If you can't get enough Avenger titles, well...here's another.

The Good

I'm a big fan of Hickman's work, and I really like what he's done with the Avengers so far. I was a bit skeptical about this book however, with it being another Avengers title...as if we needed any more. This book starts off great however, and for once it's not one of those Hickman stories that has you so confused you'd wish you had waited for a collected edition, or at least that's what it looks like so far. The whole idea of Avengers world is actually pretty cool. We see Captain America in charge of a team of Avengers that works with S.H.I.E.L.D in order to solve problems all over the world, so we're not just focusing on The Avengers in New York City. Taking The Avengers outside of their home city, and putting them in place all over Earth, as well as alternate galaxies has been something we have been seeing a lot of lately, and I think that it's doing a good job of putting together much greater stories that both new readers and veteran readers can enjoy.

As for the writing itself, Hickman does a great job of telling a story, rather than focusing on the overall fame The Avengers, and Marvel as a whole has gained over the years. It's nice to see Marvel still has those writers who stay true to comic books and their fans.

Caselli's art in this book has a cool cartoony yet mature feel that I really enjoyed throughout the book. Overall they both did a great job putting together a #1 issue.

The Not So Good

The problem here is that question that many people may be asking themselves..."Do we really need another Avengers title right now?" I know it's a New Year and we're going to sell a lot of cool new things, but I just can't help but worry that these characters are going to be seen in so many different books that it's going to get old fast. Between juggling all of these different titles, and still having fresh, and unique stories to read every week, I think a lot of readers may get fed up with the amount of titles being spun out each month.

The Bottom Line

Overall Hickman and Caselli do a great job of throwing in another Avengers title into the mix. The writing and art are great, and I think we may have a cool first arc coming our way. Here's to hoping The Avengers don't get too played out. I'm giving Avengers World #1 a 4/5
